Food connects us to our history. In this season 6 segment of Weekends with Yankee (episode 602), Amy is in Concord, New Hampshire, to meet Ahmed Aissa, co-owner of Aissa Sweets. Ahmed is from Syria but fled with his wife in 2011. To maintain a connection to his heritage and family, he began baking. In this segment, Amy meets Ahmed at his bakery Aissa Sweets, and aids in the production of his popular baklava. After trying a bite, she joins him in his home kitchen to make Maamoul, a tender date cookie.
